FERC Claims Authority Over LNG Facilities

LONG BEACH
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission said Wednesday that the federal government had sole authority over approving liquefied natural gas facilities.
The commission rejected arguments by the California Public Utilities Commission that companies seeking to build an LNG terminal at the Port of Long Beach must submit an application to the state as well as to the federal agency.
The commission said in a statement that it would work closely with state officials and local agencies.
