Lofts give a lift to downtown L.A.
Downtown L.A.’s makeover received a lift with the opening of Historic Gas Co. Lofts in three buildings that were once headquarters of the Los Angeles Gas and Electric Corp. and, later, the Southern California Gas Co.
The 251 loft apartments, approved for occupancy, are part of South Village, a $220-million, 350,000-square-foot project that will include a Ralphs store, the first supermarket built downtown in over 50 years. The adaptive reuse project preserves the historic character of the buildings at 800, 810 and 820 S. Flower St., and includes 22,500 square feet of street-front retail space.
