Nation on Alert After Apparent Coup Attempt
From Times Wire Reports
President Joseph Kabila put Congo’s citizens and security forces on high alert after authorities arrested about 15 men in an apparent coup attempt.
Gunmen attacked four military bases and two TV stations in the capital, and one soldier was killed, authorities said.
Britain’s ambassador said the attacks appeared to have been an attempt to seize power from Kabila’s national-unity administration, which is struggling to reassert control over Congo after a 1998-2003 war.
