John Amberg, 75; N.Y. Giants Player, NFL Alumni Official
John Amberg, 75, a defensive back for the New York Giants in 1951-’52, died Tuesday at a Los Angeles-area hospital, said Frank Krauser, president of NFL Alumni Inc. Amberg had been president of that organization’s Southern California chapter since 1997, and last year was elected to NFL Alumni’s national board of directors.
Amberg was captain of the University of Kansas football team before turning pro.
He played every game of the 1951 and ’52 NFL seasons for the Giants. He had five interceptions before his career was cut short by the Korean War.
