* A Nov. 1 trial date has been set for PeopleSoft Inc.’s lawsuit against Oracle Corp. alleging unfair business practices related to Oracle’s $9.4-billion hostile takeover bid.

* Ducommun Inc.’s first-quarter earnings fell 29% in part because of cost overruns on several new contracts. The Long Beach-based defense contractor said its net income dropped to $2.2 million, or 22 cents a share, from $3.1 million, or 31 cents, a year earlier. Ducommon’s quarterly revenue rose 6% to $58.2 million, aided by the acquisition of DBP Microwave last summer.

* Fannie Mae sees no need to restate financial reports, the mortgage finance giant said after consulting with the Securities and Exchange Commission on its accounting policies.

* Safeway Inc. may have its debt rating cut by Moody’s Investors Service as competition increases in California and the retailer tries to turn around chains in Chicago and Texas. The outlook for about $6.9 billion in debt was dropped to “negative” from “stable,” Moody’s said.
