3,000 Protest Taiwan’s Presidential Election
More than 3,000 protesters chanted and sang in front of City Hall on Saturday to condemn the presidential election process in Taiwan.
“We want the United States government to recognize the lack of democracy in Taiwan,” said Eddie King, a spokesman for the Chinese American Coalition for Democracy & Justice, which sponsored the demonstration in downtown Los Angeles.
The group challenges the legitimacy of Chen Shui-bian’s election, citing alleged discrepancies in balloting and an assassination attempt they believe was staged.
