SBC to Get Notice Workers May Strike

SBC Communications Inc. will receive notice today that 100,000 employees represented by the Communications Workers of America may go on strike.

The CWA plans to give SBC 24 hours’ notice that contracts will expire. That would free the union to call a strike, the union said.

Union negotiators and San Antonio-based SBC have been unable to agree on new contracts for workers in 13 states.

Shares of SBC fell 20 cents to $24.30 on the New York Stock Exchange.
