Five Foreigners Held in Inquiry on Al Qaeda

Japanese police arrested five foreigners in a widening investigation of suspected Al Qaeda activities centering on a Frenchman of Algerian descent.
Police searched 10 locations after media reports last week that Lionel Dumont, who was arrested in Germany in December, was trying to establish a Japanese base to support the terrorist network.
Police said they arrested an Indian, a Malian and three Bangladeshis for violating immigration laws. They were believed to have connections to Dumont.
