I visited Cortina d’Ampezzo and Madonna di Campiglio in Italy in September to try their latest “buzz” sport -- via ferrata climbing (via ferrata means “iron way”). Americans have become more aware of several hundred of these steel-cable-and-ladder protected climbs in the Alps.
