Seven cyclists, including a paraplegic who pedaled with her hands, completed a 2,800-mile bike ride on a route that enthusiasts hoped would become an East Coast urban trail for hikers and bicyclists.

The trip from Calais, Maine, to Key West, Fla., lasted 53 days and coursed through 15 states and Washington, D.C.

“To travel the entire East Coast by bicycle was an incredible thing,” said Mike Kruimer, of Edison, N.J.

Kruimer and his wife rode on a tandem bicycle fitted with a hand crank so Anne, a paraplegic, could pedal with her hands.
