Ex-Lawmaker Sentenced to Prison Term, Fined

A former lawmaker from Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party was handed a two-year prison term and fined $104,000 on bribery and perjury charges.
Muneo Suzuki, who had pleaded innocent, had gained notoriety in 2002 for helping force out Koizumi’s foreign minister, Makiko Tanaka.
