White House Point Man on Iraq Resigns Post

Robert Blackwill, the diplomat brought to the White House last year to take charge of the administration’s Iraq policy, unexpectedly announced his resignation, the Washington Post reported.
Blackwill was heavily involved in the effort to ensure that Iraq would hold elections by the end of January. He had been mentioned in speculation about President Bush’s second term foreign-policy team, with some observers pegging him as a possible successor to national security adviser Condoleezza Rice.
