Powell Says He Plans to Stay On at FCC
Federal Communications Commission Chairman Michael K. Powell said Tuesday he planned to stay at the agency, possibly through 2007 when his term expires.
“I’m happy where I am for the moment,” Powell said.
When asked how long he would stay, he said: “No later than 2007.”
Powell, son of Secretary of State Colin L. Powell, was appointed to the commission by former President Clinton in 1997 and was elevated to chairman in 2001 by President Bush.
Industry watchers have expected that Powell would leave the FCC soon into Bush’s second term, possibly in the summer.
