‘Christmas’ to survive on DVD

From a Times staff writer

In one of the fastest turnarounds in recent history, “Surviving Christmas,” which was in movie theaters just a few weeks ago, will be available on DVD next month, Daily Variety reported Friday.

The film, starring Ben Affleck and James Gandolfini, made such a quick exit from the multiplex circuit that DreamWorks decided it might as well take advantage of the movie’s holiday theme this year rather than holding onto it for a year. The movie grossed only $4.4 million on its opening weekend in October and has tallied a mere $10.5 million to date.
