It’s not too late to try to impress the relatives

Only one more weekend before Thanksgiving, and the holiday rush is close behind. But if you’re expecting company (in-laws, perchance?) you still have time for a festive domestic quick fix.

Want to hurriedly spruce up your house -- or make it look like you did? Some of these ideas from designers might gobble up a chunk of time, while others will go as fast as changing a lightbulb.

Paint your dining room. Washington, D.C.-area designer Marjory Segal is warming up a client’s room with a persimmony shade called Bonanza available from paint maker C2 (www .c2color.com). She is also partial to a similar color called Tiger Lily.

Buy brown linen place mats. They’re perfect for Thanksgiving, especially when paired with cream-colored napkins and maybe a single fallen leaf from your yard.

Play with the light. Try lower-watt or higher-watt lightbulbs to change a room’s look. Or use bulbs with an amber tint for an autumnal glow.

Pull out the silver. Remember where you squirreled away those silver creamers, napkin rings and serving forks? Buff them up, bring them out to shine -- and teach the kids how to properly set the table.
