Adam Young, 91; Co-Founded a Leading TV Broadcasting Group

Adam Young, 91, co-founder, treasurer and a director of Young Broadcasting Inc., died Monday at Good Samaritan Hospital in Palm Beach, Fla., after suffering a stroke.

One of the nation’s 25 largest television station groups, Young Broadcasting’s holdings include KRON-TV Channel 4 in San Francisco.

Young was a native New Yorker and started his career in the television business at age 17 as a page at NBC. He moved to NBC Radio’s programming department and research and promotion department, while managing the New Amsterdam Theater at night. He left NBC in 1936 to work in advertising.

Young established his own business, Adam Young Inc., in 1944. The company started out representing radio stations and later focused on television stations. He started Young Broadcasting with his son Vincent in 1986. The New York-based firm owns and operates 10 television stations across the country. Except for KRON-TV, the firm’s holdings are in small markets.
