Big Fig Tree to Get Special Treatment
From Times Wire Reports
The city wants to turn a 130-year-old tree into a downtown focal point by creating a park around the giant Moreton Bay fig, believed to be the nation’s largest.
The city plans to place a historic railroad car near the 76-foot-high tree.
A meandering boardwalk and walkway would be built around the fig, along with new signs explaining its history. About $150,000 in redevelopment money has been budgeted for the project.
