Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack said he would not seek chairmanship of the Democratic Party.

Citing his responsibilities as governor, Vilsack said in Des Moines that “these challenges and opportunities require more time than I felt I could share. As a result, I will not be a candidate for DNC chairman.”

Earlier this month, Vilsack telephoned several Democratic National Committee members, seeking advice and asking them to temporarily withhold endorsement of any candidate.
