Turnpike Free for a Day as Collectors Walk Out

Toll collectors on the Pennsylvania Turnpike went on strike over wages and benefits just as motorists were hitting the road for Thanksgiving.
The strike was announced by union leaders in Philadelphia. In response, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission decided to waive tolls on Wednesday and have nonunion employees staff tollbooths today.
