19th Century Cemetery Desecrated by Vandals

Vandals destroyed or damaged more than 250 headstones and monuments, many of them erected in the 1800s, at the town cemetery.

Hardest hit was the oldest section of the cemetery, which included memorials more than 125 years old. Many of the oldest headstones broke into pieces as they were pushed to the ground early Friday, police said. Cemetery keepers said they can restore some of the broken markers, but others are too badly damaged.
