While the Oregon Ducks reveled in their offensive efficiency for a second straight game, Arizona was mired in a five-game losing streak and questions about a possible quarterback controversy.

Terrence Whitehead ran for three touchdowns to give the Ducks a 28-14 victory Saturday over the struggling Wildcats at Eugene, Ore.

Demetrius Williams had nine catches for 153 yards for Oregon, which improved to 3-3 overall and 2-1 the Pacific 10 Conference, and fullback Dante Rosario caught a five-yard scoring pass from Kellen Clemens. Whitehead finished with 74 yards.

“We’re getting into a rhythm right now,” Clemens said. “Terrence Whitehead is running the ball very, very effectively, Demetrius has stepped up, [tight end] Tim Day is getting more involved in the offense.”

Clemens, who threw for three touchdowns and ran for three more in the Ducks’ come-from-behind 41-38 victory over Washington State on Oct. 9, completed his first eight passes and finished 21 for 30 for 336 yards and a touchdown.

“He’s a tremendous quarterback,” Arizona safety Darrell Brooks said. “When he’s on his game, he can get the ball anywhwere.”

With a win last week against Washington State, the Ducks have put together consecutive victories for the first time since last November.

Arizona (1-5, 0-3) dropped its fifth straight game and hasn’t won since its season opener against Northern Arizona.

The Wildcats fell behind, 28-0, before scoring twice in the final two minutes. Gilbert Harris ran for a two-yard score and backup quarterback Richard Kovalcheck found Brad Wood in the end zone with a 21-yard pass.

Arizona starting quarterback Kris Heavner struggled, completing only nine of 24 passes for 79 yards, with two interceptions.

Kovalcheck, who came into the game in the final quarter and helped the Wildcats avoid the shutout, was five for 10 for 77 yards and a touchdown.

Stanford 23, Washington State 17 -- Trent Edwards threw a 67-yard touchdown pass to Evan Moore to help the Cardinal (4-2, 2-1) defeat the Cougars (3-3, 1-2) at Pullman, Wash.

Stanford intercepted three of Josh Swogger’s passes and Washington State blew two third-quarter scoring chances inside the Stanford five.

Michael Sgroi kicked field goals of 39, 20 and 47 yards.

Edwards completed 15 of 31 passes for 202 yards, with a touchdown and an interception.

The victory ended the Cardinal’s three-game losing streak to the Cougars, all at Stanford Stadium. The Cardinal’s last win in the series was at Pullman in 2000. It was only the second win in 13 road games since Buddy Teevens became coach three years ago.

Oregon State 29, Washington 14 -- Alexis Serna kicked five field goals, and the Beavers (2-4, 1-2) forced seven turnovers in a victory over the Huskies (1-5, 0-3) at Seattle.

It was only the third victory for Oregon State over Washington since 1975.

Derek Anderson threw for 286 yards, including a 16-yard touchdown pass to Marcel Love, in the third quarter for Oregon State.

Serna, a redshirt freshman who missed three extra-point attempts in a 22-21 overtime loss to Louisiana State in the season opener, made kicks of 23, 27, 31, 36 and 55 yards for the Beavers.

Washington had its opportunities, but fullback James Sims fumbled twice inside the five-yard-line.

The injury-plagued Huskies lost sophomore defensive tackle Dan Milsten in the first quarter to a broken left leg. Milsten was taken off the field in an ambulance after making a tackle on Oregon State’s Ryan Cole.
