Liberal Democrats Can Cite a Proud Record

Re “Making ‘Liberal’ a Fighting Word Again,” Oct. 15: In reading Janet Hook’s article about Republicans using the term “liberal” to demonize Democrats, I am reminded of a few other of those liberal Democrats. Let’s see, there was Woodrow Wilson, who won World War I. There was Franklin Roosevelt, who pulled us out of the Depression, created Social Security and won World War II. There was Harry Truman, who helped win World War II and created the strategy of containment that led to winning the Cold War.

There was Jack Kennedy, another one of those liberal war heroes Republicans who never fought a day in their lives like to try to demonize. And there is Bill Clinton, who not only won wars in Bosnia and Kosovo but created 20 million-plus jobs and balanced the budget.

Oh those evil liberal Dems -- all they do is win wars, fix economies and build jobs. As compared with George W. Bush, who loses jobs, builds deficits and has created a mess in Iraq. Seems a fair comparison.
