16 Killed in Ambush; Islamists Suspected

Attackers killed 16 people heading to a soccer match in an ambush before dawn south of Algiers, an official statement said. It said Islamic militants were suspected.
The victims, mostly youths, were ambushed on a road near Medea, 40 miles south of the capital.
The North African nation has been fighting an insurgency since 1992, when the army canceled national elections to prevent victory by a Muslim fundamentalist party.
