Death Toll Rises to 79 in Mine Explosion

As rescuers worked to reach a section of a mine that had collapsed 1,000 feet underground in a gas explosion, the number of confirmed dead from the disaster rose to 79.
The official New China News Agency said the chances of survival for any of the 69 miners who were still missing were “quite slim.” The blast occurred Wednesday in Henan province.
