Regarding “Solo Travelers Often Pay a Hefty Price for Going It Alone” [Travel Insider, Oct. 17]: When will people in the travel industry wake up and realize their discriminatory practices might have a negative rather than positive impact on revenues?

More and more women are becoming single homeowners -- evidence that they not only like being independent but that they have the economic clout to enjoy travel as a leisure pursuit.

Many people would be more inclined to sign up for cruises and tours if they felt they were being offered a fair deal. Society is not made up exclusively of individuals who require a companion to be able to enjoy life’s meaningful experiences.
