Group Seeks Probe of New Northwest Fees
The Justice Department is being asked to investigate new Northwest Airlines fees that added $7.50 to the cost of a round-trip ticket bought via systems used by travel agents.
The Business Travel Coalition wrote to the Justice Department to assert that Northwest added the fee hoping that other carriers would follow because it had not been able to raise fares directly.
Representatives for the Justice Department and Eagan, Minn.-based Northwest could not be reached for comment.
Northwest shares fell 30 cents to $9.11 on Nasdaq.
