With the exception of a knee injury to seven-time Pro Bowl tackle Jonathan Ogden, everything went right for the Baltimore Ravens against the New York Giants on Thursday.

Kyle Boller threw a touchdown pass, Chris McAlister scored on an interception return and senior consultant Jim Fassel got to enjoy the 27-17 victory on the Ravens’ sideline. The game was Fassel’s first in East Rutherford, N.J., since being fired as coach by the Giants.

The Giants, who lost their last eight games in 2003, played poorly and the fans were booing the team and new Coach Tom Coughlin by halftime.

Raven Coach Brian Billick said he believed Odgen suffered a sprained left knee. The Ravens were uncertain about his status for the season opener.

The Giants’ Kurt Warner completed seven of nine passes for 79 yards. Eli Manning, the No. 1 pick overall, completed four for seven for 99 yards.

At Foxboro, Mass., Quinn Gray threw three touchdown passes in the final eight minutes and the Jacksonville Jaguars ended the New England Patriots’ 1-3 exhibition season with a 31-0 win. The Patriots rested their regulars.

Rich Gannon threw his first touchdown pass of the preseason in the Raiders’ 28-24 victory over the St. Louis Rams at Oakland. Gannon completed five of eight for 45 yards.

Rod Rutherford’s 57-yard completion to Eugene Baker in the fourth quarter set up John Kasay’s third field goal, and the Carolina Panthers completed their second consecutive unbeaten preseason with a 16-13 victory over the Steelers at Pittsburgh.

Vinny Testaverde completed only four of 10 passes for 40 yards and Eddie George had more carries (nine) than yards (eight) at Irving, Texas. Then Tony Romo led the Dallas Cowboys on three consecutive scoring drives and the defense made it hold up in a 24-20 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Rookie Philip Rivers completed 13 of 16 passes for 85 yards and a touchdown in the San Diego Chargers’ 31-15 victory over the 49ers at San Francisco.

Drew Bledsoe led Buffalo’s first-string offense to its only touchdown of the preseason at Detroit, three Lion defensive backs were hurt and the Lions prevailed, 20-17.

Lion safety Brock Marion (bruised right knee), cornerback Fernando Bryant (neck stinger) and cornerback Rod Babers (shoulder) all left the game.

Willis McGahee, still looking tentative coming off his knee injury, gained 24 yards in 11 carries, but put Buffalo ahead, 7-0, with a two-yard run.

Michael Pittman, who got extensive playing time because Tampa Bay rested starter Charlie Garner, ran for 71 yards in 12 carries and the Buccaneers held the Texans to three field goals in a 17-9 victory at Houston.

Trent Dilfer completed 17 of 20 passes for 211 yards and two first-half touchdowns and Seneca Wallace led a late drive that resulted in Josh Brown’s game-winning 28-yard field goal with no time left at Seattle as the Seahawks beat the Minnesota Vikings, 23-21.
