U.S. Plans to Send Troops for Afghan Vote

The United States plans to send hundreds of new troops to Afghanistan to increase security before the scheduled Oct. 9 election, U.S. military officials said.
Guerrillas have stepped up attacks in the weeks before the election, despite the presence of about 18,000 coalition troops and the Afghan army.
