From Times Wire Reports

Sudanese militiamen surged into a western border area after refugees attempted to return to their village, U.N. officials said, a move that raises concern about how quickly 1.4 million displaced people could go home.

United Nations authorities were sending a team to assess the risks, said U.N. refugee security officer Sabir Mughal.

Some of the nearly 200,000 refugees who fled to Chad were starting to return, Social Affairs Minister Habib Mouktoun said, “and we are welcoming them.” But the militia’s movement could jeopardize efforts to convince refugees that they can safely go home.
