Firefighters Take Steps to Deter More Scandals

City firefighters beset by a series of scandals have created a new four-person Internal Affairs and Professional Standards unit.
Group sex on the job, visits to a porn-star costume ball, using firetrucks to pick up women -- the department has been fighting one blow to its reputation after another since July.
In response, the department also is adding a new battalion chief to provide closer supervision of firefighters scattered among 22 fire stations.
