Peaceful Departure of Most Settlers Expected

Israel expects 70% of Jewish settlers to leave Gaza and the northern West Bank peacefully during a partial pullout from the occupied territories this summer, a senior official said.
Jonathan Bassi, an official in charge of compensating the 8,500 residents of 21 settlements in the Gaza Strip and four in the West Bank, said his opinion was based on talks with many of the settlers. A government commission is preparing to meet and approve the first payments, he said.
