Ex-Teacher Gets Jail for Abusing Girls
A former teacher at a San Fernando Valley elementary school was sentenced to 16 years in state prison Friday for molesting six students over several years, prosecutors said.
Michael William McMurray, 36, of Palmdale had pleaded no contest last month to continuous child molestation as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office. The sentence was expected as part of the plea agreement.
A restitution hearing was scheduled for June 22.
McMurray taught at Plainview Elementary School for five years before being arrested last fall. Prosecutors accused him of fondling the students, all girls, between 2001 and his arrest in October 2004. He had been held on $6-million bail.
