Faculty Urges Dismissal of Tuition Protest Cases
About 200 faculty members want charges dropped against 19 “Tent University” activists arrested last week during a protest at UC Santa Cruz against higher tuition costs.
A faculty petition to Chancellor Denice Denton and Interim Campus Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor David Kliger said the use of police on campus was unwarranted and “threatened to escalate into a wider conflagration.”
The students had set up tents at the campus entrance. Campus police arrested some demonstrators for trespassing April 18.
