Once upon a time, a festival

The cultural appeal might be broad, and the target audiences might be diverse. But there will be a single focus when patrons and performers gather this weekend for the sixth annual Village of Tales, Ojai Storytelling Festival. The weekend-long festival celebrates spoken word.

Emceed by Gay Ducey, the festival promises a bit of something for everyone:

Willy Claflin sometimes shares the stage with puppet Maynard Moose; Donald Davis, long one of the biggest attractions on the storytelling circuit, focuses on the family story; Elizabeth Ellis’ tales are heaped in the traditions of Appalachia and Texas; Kala Jojo extolls African heritage; Gayle Ross’ stories are rooted in her Cherokee heritage; and Kuniko Yamamoto employs masks to tell of ancient and contemporary Japan.
