GOP Is Inconsistent in Its Stance on Death Tax

Share

In his article concerning the death tax (“And Now, a Word From the Other Side,” Commentary, April 24), Jonathan Bines notes that “if heirs to the fabulous wealthy wish to persist in the delusion that they are due not just something for nothing but everything -- let them say so openly.”

This something-for-nothing concept got me to thinking how inconsistent it is for Republicans to be pushing for the elimination of the death tax.

Aren’t Republicans the bastion of capitalism, wherein everyone is to earn one’s wealth by working hard and working smart? I am baffled as to how these dyed-in-the-wool capitalists can justify inheriting wealth created by someone else.
