Shaw remembered as an ethical journalist

Share

For those of us who toil or have toiled in the vineyards of journalism, David Shaw (Obituary, Aug. 2) served as a beacon of reason and fountain of common sense.

His reporting and analysis brought a higher level of clarity to the inner workings of the craft, and did so in the voice of the common man and woman. One might disagree with Shaw’s conclusions, but his arguments were always well formed and persuasive.

More important, Shaw was a highly ethical man. That quality was clearly delineated in his work on the Staples Center deal, and each week in his column. Young journalists and those aspiring to be journalists can learn many lessons from the writings of David Shaw.
