Carolla says he’ll succeed Stern

Comedian Adam Carolla confirmed Thursday that he is tentatively slated to take over for radio shock jock Howard Stern in L.A. and at least three other Western markets, probably early next year.

Carolla told Stern during his popular morning drive-time show, broadcast locally on KLSX-FM (97.1), that he expects to air in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego and another unnamed market in the West.

He added, however, that nothing has been formally signed with Infinity Broadcasting, whose contract with Stern expires at the end of the year.

Carolla is co-host, along with Dr. Drew Pinsky, of the nationally syndicated “Loveline,” which airs on KROQ-FM (106.7). And Carolla, the onetime co-host of “The Man Show” with Jimmy Kimmel on Comedy Central, launches a new solo show on that outlet Monday called “Too Late With Adam Carolla.”

Stern, who revealed three weeks ago that Carolla would succeed him, is scheduled to move his show to Sirius Satellite Radio in January.
