The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel who died in Afghanistan, Iraq, at sea and a U.S. medical facility:

Victor A. Anderson, 39, of Ellaville, Ga.; sergeant first class, Army National Guard. Anderson was among four guardsmen killed July 30 when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Humvee while on patrol in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 121st Infantry Regiment, 48th Infantry Brigade, Army National Guard in Albany, Ga.

Timothy M. Bell Jr., 22, of West Chesterfield, Ohio; lance corporal, Marine Corps Reserve. Bell was among 14 Marine reservists killed Wednesday when their amphibious assault vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device near Haditha, Iraq, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Marine Corps Reserve in Columbus, Ohio. As part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, he was attached to Regimental Combat Team 2, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).

Eric J. Bernholtz, 23, of Grove City, Ohio; lance corporal, Marine Corps Reserve. Bernholtz was among 14 Marine reservists killed Wednesday when their amphibious assault vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device near Haditha, Iraq, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Marine Corps Reserve in Columbus, Ohio. As part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, he was attached to Regimental Combat Team 2, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).

Nicholas William B. Bloem, 20, of Belgrade, Mont.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Bloem was among 14 Marine reservists killed Wednesday when their amphibious assault vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device near Haditha, Iraq, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 4th Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Marine Corps Reserve in Billings, Mont. As part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, he was attached to Regimental Combat Team 2, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).

Jeffrey A. Boskovitch, 25, of Seven Hills, Ohio; corporal, Marine Corps Reserve. Boskovitch was among six Marine reservists killed Monday by small-arms fire near Haditha, Iraq, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Marine Corps Reserve in Brookpark, Ohio. As part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, he was attached to Regimental Combat Team 2, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).

Adrian J. Butler, 28, of East Lansing, Mich.; specialist, Army. Butler was one of two soldiers killed July 27 when an improvised explosive device detonated near their motorized patrol in Ashraf, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 411th Military Police Company, 720th Military Police Battalion, 89th Military Police Brigade at Ft. Hood, Texas.

James D. Carroll, 23, of McKenzie, Tenn.; specialist, Army National Guard. Carroll was killed July 31 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 230th Engineer Battalion, Army National Guard in McKenzie, Tenn.

Roger D. Castleberry Jr., 26, of Austin, Texas; lance corporal, Marines Corps Reserve. Castleberry was among six Marine reservists killed Monday by small-arms fire near Haditha, Iraq, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 4th Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Marine Corps Reserve in San Antonio. As part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, his unit was attached to Regimental Combat Team 2, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).

Michael J. Cifuentes, 25, of Fairfield, Ohio; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Cifuentes was among 14 Marine reservists killed Wednesday when their amphibious assault vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device near Haditha, Iraq, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Marine Corps Reserve in Columbus, Ohio. Theodore Clark Jr., 31, of Emporia, Va.; gunnery sergeant, Marine Corps. Clark was killed Thursday when his military vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device near Gardez, Afghanistan, south of Kabul. He was assigned to the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton.

David J. Coullard, 32, of Glastonbury, Conn.; sergeant, Marine Corps Reserve. Coullard was among six Marine reservists killed Monday by small-arms fire near Haditha, Iraq, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Marine Corps Reserve in Brookpark, Ohio. As part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, he was attached to Regimental Combat Team 2, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).

Ernest W. Dallas Jr., 21, of Denton, Texas; specialist, Army. Dallas was among four soldiers killed July 24 when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Bradley fighting vehicle in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Ft. Carson, Colo.

Daniel N. Deyarmin Jr., 22, of Tallmadge, Ohio; lance corporal, Marine Corps Reserve. Deyarmin was among six Marine reservists killed Monday by small-arms fire near Haditha, Iraq, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Marine Corps Reserve in Brookpark, Ohio. He was assigned to the 648th Engineer Battalion, 48th Infantry Brigade, Army National Guard in Statesboro, Ga.

Mathew V. Gibbs, 21, of Ambrose, Ga.; specialist, Army National Guard. Gibbs was among three guardsmen killed Wednesday when a car bomb exploded near their armored personnel carrier in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 648th Engineer Battalion, 48th Infantry Brigade, Army National Guard in Statesboro, Ga.

James R. Graham III, 25, of Coweta, Okla.; sergeant, Marine Corps Reserve. Graham was killed Monday in a suicide car bombing near Hit, Iraq, on the Euphrates River. He was assigned to the 4th Tank Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Marine Corps Reserve in Broken Arrow, Okla. As part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, his unit was attached to Regimental Combat Team 2, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).

Bradley J. Harper, 25, of Dresden, Ohio; sergeant, Marine Corps. Harper was among 14 Marine reservists killed Wednesday when their amphibious assault vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device near Haditha, Iraq, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 4th Assault Amphibian Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Marine Corps Reserve in Norfolk, Va. As part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, he was attached to Regimental Combat Team 2, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).

Justin F. Hoffman, 27, of Delaware, Ohio; sergeant, Marine Corps. Hoffman was among 14 Marine reservists killed Wednesday when their amphibious assault vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device near Haditha, Iraq, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Marine Corps Reserve in Columbus, Ohio. Thomas C. Hull, 41, of Princeton, Ill.; petty officer first class, Navy. Hull died Tuesday aboard the aircraft carrier Nimitz in the Arabian Gulf after being medically evacuated following a noncombat-related incident. As part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, he was an operations specialist assigned to the guided missile cruiser Princeton, homeported in San Diego.

David R. Jones Sr., 45, of Augusta, Ga.; staff sergeant, Army National Guard. Jones was among four guardsmen killed July 30 when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Humvee while on patrol in Baghdad. James D. McNaughton, 27, of Middle Village, N.Y.; staff sergeant, Army Reserve. McNaughton was killed Tuesday when he was struck by sniper fire while in a guard tower in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 306th Military Police Battalion, 800th Military Police Brigade, Army Reserve in Uniondale, N.Y.

Jason W. Montefering, 27, of Parkston, S.D.; staff sergeant, Army. Montefering was among four soldiers killed July 24 when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Bradley fighting vehicle in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Ft. Carson, Colo.

Brian P. Montgomery, 26, of Willoughby, Ohio; lance corporal, Marine Corps Reserve. Montgomery was among six Marine reservists killed Monday by small-arms fire near Haditha, Iraq, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Marine Corps Reserve in Brookpark, Ohio. Edward A. Schroeder II, 23, of Columbus, Ohio; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Schroeder was among 14 Marine reservists killed Wednesday when their amphibious assault vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device near Haditha, Iraq, northwest of Baghdad. Chad J. Simon, 32, of Madison, Wis.; staff sergeant, Marine Corps Reserve. Simon died Thursday while under hospice care in Madison for injuries he suffered in a roadside bombing that killed three others Nov. 8 in Iraq’s Babil province, south of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Marine Corps Reserve in Madison.

Stewart was among 14 Marine reservists killed Wednesday when their amphibious assault vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device near Haditha, Iraq, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 4th Assault Amphibian Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Marine Corps Reserve in Gulfport, Miss.
