More bad reviews for Hollywood

Share

Reading Patt Morrison’s article about summer movies (Opinion, Aug. 10) caused me to review my own movie choices this summer. I saw “March of the Penguins” with my 11-year old son, “Wedding Crashers” with my husband and “Hustle & Flow” all by myself. Although the latter was generally wellreviewed, I was the only person in the theater at 7 p.m. on a weeknight.

They were all good films in their own ways, but that is an average of only one movie a month for me, one movie for the whole summer for the rest of my family. When I scan the movie listings, there is little to tempt one except the air-conditioning.

I appreciated Morrison’s reasons for the demise of movies and felt that she was right on in her reasons why movie attendance is down, and in my estimation may slide even further.

There is one more item I would like to add to the mix, and that is the rapid-fire editing that seems to be all the rage these days. Images go by so fast that I often get a headache trying to watch or keep up with the action.

Gone are the days of a long scene when people had to actually act and deliver meaningful lines. Gone are the days when the camera would linger on a scene and you could take in its meaning or its beauty.
