2003 Torbreck Barossa Valley ‘The Struie’

Share

Dave Powell is a powerhouse in the Australian winemaking world. Year after year he keeps trying to knock the ball out of the ballpark, and he usually accomplishes it, whether it’s with his $20 Woodcutters Shiraz or his flagship $150 RunRig.

The Struie, his mid-priced 100% Shiraz from 40-year-old Eden Valley and 80-year-old Barossa Valley vines, is deep-toned and lush, tasting of dark plums and blackberries. It has power and finesse, which is why it’s always such a beauty. But this 2003 vintage is something else again.

The Struie is always a unique wine, with something smoky in its profile, which makes it a natural for grilled meats or succulent pork. It might like to meet your barbecue.
