A small boat overloaded with more than 100 undocumented Ecuadorean immigrants capsized and sank in rough waters in the Pacific Ocean, and only nine survivors were found, officials said.

Ecuadorean Navy Capt. Armando Elizalde told Colombian RCN television that most of the 113 people aboard “sank with the boat,” which the Colombian navy said was meant to hold 15 people.

The immigrants were believed to be headed to the United States. Their craft sank Friday night more than 100 miles off the Colombian coast, and the survivors were found Sunday.
