Plane’s Lost Banner Causes Power Outage
A commercial banner that came off a plane landed on power lines in the Bixby Knolls area Sunday afternoon, causing a power outage that affected more than 2,000 houses, officials said.
Firefighters were called at 12:55 p.m. to the 4100 block of Del Mar Avenue, said Capt. Jim Arvizu of the Long Beach Fire Department.
The weight of the banner pulled down electrical wires between five poles, causing 2,234 houses to lose power, said Mashi Nyssen of Southern California Edison.
Power was mostly restored by midafternoon, she said.
