EU Calls Off Talks Next Week With Iran

European powers have called off Aug. 31 talks with Iran that were aimed at getting Tehran to halt its nuclear program, France said.
French Foreign Ministry spokesman Jean-Baptiste Mattei said talks would not proceed because Iran had resumed certain nuclear work in breach of a promise to freeze it during negotiations with Britain, France and Germany, which were representing the European Union.
Iran says its nuclear program is aimed at energy production, but Washington fears that its real aim is to make weapons.
