Boeing Co. engineers in Wichita, Kan., rejected a four-year contract proposal by the aircraft maker because it offered smaller pay increases than one approved by commercial-jet engineers in Seattle last week.

The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace said on its website that 71% of the 800 Wichita workers that the union represents had turned down the offer. A separate vote must be taken to authorize a strike.
