Ex-Policeman Sentenced in Priest’s Killing
A former police commander was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the 1993 killing of a Roman Catholic cardinal in Guadalajara, a court announced.
Humberto Rodriguez Banuelos was among gunmen who riddled Cardinal Juan Jesus Posadas Ocampo’s car with bullets, the court said. Investigators said the gang was working for jailed drug lord Benjamin Arellano Felix and had confused the car with that of a rival trafficker.
Church figures have said that Posadas Ocampo was killed because he knew about alleged relationships between drug dealers and government officials.
