Frolov to Face Comrade

They once played together on the Russian national team and will do so again during the Winter Olympics in February at Turin, Italy.

But Alexander Frolov said now is not the time to look forward to that kind of reunion with Alexander Ovechkin, the Washington Capitals’ star rookie. Tonight Ovechkin is the enemy.

“For me it’s just another game,” said the King forward, who has 13 goals and 20 assists. “And it’s really important to us, especially right now, to do everything we can to win.”

Slowing the Capital forward is a high priority. Ovechkin leads the team with 18 goals and is second with 14 assists. He has taken 141 shots, more than twice the shots taken by any of his teammates. He leads NHL rookies in scoring with 32 points, and in power-play points with 14.

Jeremy Roenick apparently has lost hope of being named to the U.S. Olympic team.

“Would I like to be on it? No question. But I’m not expecting to be on it,” the 35-year-old forward said.

Teammates Craig Conroy and Aaron Miller reportedly have secured spots on the team, but neither had been informed as of late Tuesday morning. “[Coach Andy Murray] thinks that but until I hear from someone that’s from USA Hockey it’s not official,” Miller said.... Forward George Parros, sidelined since late November because of a high ankle sprain, had his first full practice since being injured, but after 30 minutes he was hit in the same ankle by a puck. He remains on injured reserve and the date of his return to the lineup is unclear.... With Jeff Cowan (hamstring) unavailable, Jeff Giuliano has been recalled from minor league Manchester.
