Man Sentenced to Death for Child’s Rape, Murder
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
A former Chula Vista bus driver was sentenced to death Wednesday for the 1991 kidnapping, rape and murder of a 9-year-old girl.
Superior Court Judge John Thompson sentenced Manuel Bracamontes, 42, to die for killing Laura Arroyo. He was linked to the murder in 1993 through a DNA test.
“It has been 14 years of wait and anguish,” the girl’s mother said after Thompson’s decision. Laura Arroyo was strangled and struck with an ax after being kidnapped from her home.
