Flooding in southern Thailand, among the worst such disasters in 40 years, has left at least 27 people dead, officials said.

Rising waters have devastated several provinces along the border with Malaysia, triggering landslides and causing train service to be suspended, officials said. The floods, caused by heavy rains in recent weeks, have affected more than 1 million people and prompted the government to declare seven southern provinces disaster zones.
