More Than 40 Sentenced in Andijon Uprising

Uzbek courts sentenced more than 40 people to 12 to 20 years in prison in connection with the May uprising in the eastern city of Andijon, which was brutally suppressed by government troops.
The Interfax news agency said two Tashkent courts convicted 42 people on charges including participation in terrorist acts and murder.
Rights groups and witnesses say hundreds of civilians were killed in the government crackdown. The government blames Islamic militants and says 187 people died.
