Re “Rights Clash in Bias Suit Against UC,” Dec. 19

The article about the University of California denying credit for certain Christian-based courses concludes with a quote by Burt Carney, legislative director for the Christian schools association. In citing the importance of eligibility for UC, he said that “if your students can go to the University of California, it’s like the Good Housekeeping seal of approval.” If Carney acknowledges and values UC’s high standards, why can’t he trust the judgment of those who set them?

If education is their true goal, rather than spending all their time and money suing the University of California, why don’t these Christians in Murietta spend the money in founding their own legitimate university for their children? All they need to do is look at the likes of Brigham Young University and Bob Jones University as examples, and there is still plenty of open space in southern Riverside County. Then their K-12 curriculum could be whatever they wanted.
